はじめまして。私はアンドレ・スミスといいます。
ふだんは工房にこもり、溶接の火花の中で時間を過ごしています。人前で自己紹介をするのは正直あまり得意ではありません。でも、このサイトを立ち上げるにあたり、最初の言葉だけは自分で残しておきたいと思いました。
TRUNK SHOPは、効率や便利さのために生まれた場所ではありません。鉄や木を叩き、削り、組み合わせ、思いついたことをそのまま形にする。ときには偶然に助けられ、ときには不器用な結果に終わることもある。でも、その中からしか出てこない「表情」や「手触り」が確かにあるんです。
私たちがつくるものは、誰にでも好かれるものではありません。偏りがあり、癖もある。だからこそ、強く響く人にはたまらなく響く。そういう距離感を大切にしています。便利さや合理性より、「面白いか」「心が動くか」。判断基準はただそれだけです。
このウェブサイトには、そうした私たちのものづくりを少しずつ載せていきます。完成したプロダクトだけでなく、途中の試行錯誤や、工房で起きていることも見せていきたい。ときどきはこうしてブログを書いて、考えていることを残すつもりです。
TRUNK SHOPはまだ始まったばかりです。どこへ向かうのか、私自身にもはっきりとは見えていません。ただ、面白いかどうか、それだけを頼りに進んでいきます。

Nice to meet you. My name is Andre Smith.
Most of my time is spent in the workshop, behind the sparks of welding. I am not so good at standing in front of people and introducing myself. But with this website starting, I felt I should leave the first words myself.
TRUNK SHOP is not made for efficiency or convenience. It is made from hitting iron, shaping wood, combining ideas as they come. Sometimes the result is by accident, sometimes clumsy. But only in that way can a certain look or feeling be born.
What we create is not for everyone. It has bias, it has quirks. That is why, for some people, it resonates so strongly. We care more about whether it feels interesting, whether it moves the heart. Nothing more complicated than that.
This website will slowly collect our work. Finished products, yes, but also the process, the trial and error, the small stories from inside the workshop. Sometimes I will write here too, like this, to leave behind what I am thinking.
TRUNK SHOP has just begun. Where it will go, I do not know clearly myself. But I will follow only one compass — whether it is interesting or not.
